In our most recent LinkedIn poll, B2BE asked our social media followers how they would describe their current relationship with robotics as a way of managing their supply chains.
What is robotics?
Autonomous robots are redefining future supply chains by helping companies reduce overall spending, ensure stability, increase productivity, avoid mistakes, reduce inventory checks, and optimise picking, sorting, and storing times. Supply chain management uses robotic process automation to automate low-value tasks, streamlining operations and removing human error. Robotics allow supply chains to scale up faster and meet supply requirements as demand increases. Robotics also allows greater workforce adaptability, improving safety for workers by taking over dangerous jobs such as retrieving items from high storage spaces. Reduced human error and improved delivery times brought about by robotic automation will increase customer satisfaction.
Robotics and the supply chain: what we found
The joint-most popular response, with 31% of responses, said that yes, robotics is already a key part of their supply chain management strategy.
The other joint-most popular response, also 31%, said that they had not yet made robotics a part of their strategy, but that they were interested.
The next most popular option, with 25%, said they were not yet doing so, but that they were already actively pursuing the use of robotics.
Finally, the least popular option, with 13%, were those who said no, they were not using robotics, and were not planning to in the future.
We can see from this that 56% of respondents are already using or pursuing these tools. As well as this, an overwhelming majority, 87%, at least, indicated they were interested in doing so. This is a positive sign, showing that supply chain professionals understand the value of robotics technology in a supply chain management strategy, meaning that more businesses are continuing to embrace this technology and improve their efficiency and productivity because of this.
