EDI trends in 2023: what we found
More API integration
78% of respondents selected more API integration as the biggest EDI trend for 2023, would you agree?
Both EDI and APIs transfer data from one system to another. The technologies work together, API integration augments EDI and gives deeper context to the B2B integrations within the digital ecosystem. For example, APIs may be necessary to look up catalogue inventory within an e-commerce platform, and then if a customer makes an order, EDI can kick-start the ordering, shipping, and fulfilment processes. Both processes are equally critical to business success. These API integrations with the EDI process will become more vital to user experience and business success.

Greater in-house processing
11% of respondents thought greater in-house processing would be a big trend for EDI in 2023.
In the past, it was mostly smaller organisations that would integrate EDI through in-house processing due to the demand. However, as businesses look to cut costs is there the possibility that larger organisations could save by moving the processes in-house? One things for certain, by taking on this responsibility organisations will need larger teams to support this demand.
More uptake of PEPPOL
11% selected more uptake of PEPPOL as the biggest EDI trend in 2023.
The PEPPOL接入点 allows organisations to trade with multiple partners that are connected to the PEPPOL trading network. Created as an EU-funded project to establish standards for electronic public procurement, it is an EDI protocol designed to simplify the process between supplier and government. Achieving widespread adoption in Europe, PEPPOL is becoming more established globally in countries such as Singapore, New Zealand and Australia, further increasing the growth of EDI.
Other
最后。 0% selected ‘other’ as the biggest EDI trend in 2023.
While this wasn’t selected by any of the respondents, other could contribute to consolidation of old standards. In EDI infrastructures that have grown in large organisations there will be a multitude of different EDI standards and formats. While older EDI providers are not always technologically capable of keeping up with these consolidations, more tech-savvy providers can find a way to lift old legacy applications onto new technological legs.
