Is the demand for seaborne shipping softening?

As we head towards the end of the year, and businesses within the retail sector begin to build up stock for the holiday seasons its normal for this time of year to be the peak season for seaborne trade. However, this year there seems to be less of a demand for seaborne shipping. The global demand for Chinese goods has dropped, and consumers from the US to Europe have cut back on spending. Could this be a sign of things to come?
