Is the demand for seaborne shipping softening?
As we head towards the end of the year, and businesses within the retail sector begin to build up stock for the holiday seasons its normal for this time of year to be the peak season for seaborne trade. However, this year there seems to be less of a demand for seaborne shipping. The global demand for Chinese goods has dropped, and consumers from the US to Europe have cut back on spending. Could this be a sign of things to come?
Does the supply chain need a culture change?
The logistic and transportation industries have often lagged behind when it came to technology and social changes. During a recent discussion at the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals EDGE 2022 conference, professionals highlighted the need for these industries to get creative and abandon the top-down attitude. With recent industry strikes in the ports in the UK the social shift is undeniable.
Supply chains are getting ready for Christmas
Consumer spending increased during July, however, figures published by the Office for National Statistics highlighted that this was due to online spending. The question is whether or not this trend will continue towards the end of the year. Supply chain businesses are getting ready for this peak demand and responding to changes in customer demand.
